Community-Driven Weatherization is Changing DC

About WeatherizeDC

WeatherizeDC launched in September and is the nation’s most robust community engagement campaign around home efficiency, proving that it's really possible to save homeowners money while taking action on climate change and creating good green jobs. WeatherizeDC views home weatherization as the linchpin of a revitalized community and a model green city for families, businesses and the environment.

In a time of economic and environmental crisis, residential efficiency poses a singular opportunity.  Not only is home weatherization one of the most effective strategies in arresting climate change, the home performance industry represents one of America’s few economic sectors primed for expansion and job creation. While inefficient homes contribute over 20 percent of the nation’s carbon pollution and upgrades can quickly save residents money in the form of energy bills, less than 5 percent of these 130 million homes have undergone an energy efficient retrofit, or weatherization.

Take a look at Judy's story below. Judy first met WeatherizeDC at a Community Energy Meeting in the fall and quickly began her weatherization pathway with a review of her home energy audit. Judy's weatherization investment cut down her air infiltration by 25%, increased her home's comfort, and helped to create a new local job opportunity.
