Destination Copenhagen: Post 1

Marcus Ryan, cofounder of The DC Project, is in Copenhagen for the United Nations conference on global warming. The conference runs from December 7th to the 18th and he'll be keeping us updated.

There are so many reasons so many people have used to cast doubt and criticism on the prospects coming out of the next couple weeks in Copenhagen. A considerable amount of time and energy is going into what IS NOT going to come from it. While I appreciate many parts of the argument supporting this skepticism, I am typing this about 45 minutes before I leave for Copenhagen, sitting on the ground of The DC Project's new office, and I am overwhelmed by excitement because all I can think about is the incredible post-Copenhagen opportunity available to our generation.

We can either look at Copenhagen as being a prolonged reminder of what decision makers are unable to do, or generationally shoulder the responsibility of what WE are able to do. We can either fight amongst ourselves over policies that most people mostly dont understand, or unite by building communities around actions that everyone can understand. Our generation can decide between these choices better than anyone making decisions in Copenhagen because we understand the true power of our community organizing ability.

The reason I am so excited is because I see our generation beginning to truly shoulder the responsibility of revitalizing our communites, taking all of our considerable talent and applying local action to our global vision.

And so I see Copenhagen as a win-win opportunity. No matter the outcome , WE are taking the reins. Copenhagen will be where our generation gathers from all over the world to reach our own consensus, where we will talk amongst ourselves and strategize on how to rebuild and transform our communities into renewed commitments to partner with people and nature. Copenhagen.

This is absolutely the most exciting time to be alive....
